Winner of the 2013 Tim Olsen Drawing Prize, ‘Ms. Bloomsby’ is a large scale coloured ink on paper drawing. The work is a visual recreation of the ‘stream of consciousness’ style of of writing I researched while studying my English literature degree at UNSW. The title of the work is an amalgamation of two famous literary characters: Leopold Bloom from James Joyces ‘Ulysses’ and Mrs. Dalloway from Virginia Woolf’s ‘Mrs Dalloway’. In both Modernist novels the protagonists consciousness is explored in real time as they make their way about their day. Thoughts, memories, emotions, physical experiences all stream together.

Similarly my character ‘Ms. Bloomsby’’s thoughts, memories, dreams and fears are explored as she makes her way around Ego City. Inspired by myself, my sister and many other people I personally know the artwork poses the question: What would it be like to experience a day in the mind of another.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
